James Edwin Campbell, USA (1867 - 1895)

James Edwin Campbell werd geboren op 27 juli 1867 te Pomeroy Ohio als zoon van Lethia Stark & James Campbell. Hij studeerde af aan Pomeroy High School in 1884, was onderwijzer in Ohio en maakte deel uit van de Republikeinse politek aldaar.

In 1887 verscheen de gedichtenbundel Driftings & gleanings.

In de periode 1890 - 1894 was hij hoofd van respectievelijk Langston School in Point Pleasant & Collegiate institute Charleston - een agrirische en technische school voor de Afro-Americans. In 1891 was hij getrouwd met Mary Champ, een onderwijzer op één van zijn scholen.

Na zijn verhuizing naar Chicago maakte hij deel uit de redactie van The Times Herald & schreef artikelen en gedichten voor verschillnde periodieken.

Zijn Carriere werd in de kiem gesmoord toen hij op zijn achtentwintigste overleed aan de gevolgen van een longontsteking.

In 1895 verscheen posthuum Echoes from the cabin and elsewhere
